Minerva 1 Launches

May 29, 2016 - Our first stratospheric balloon flight, flown in partnership with Arete STEM Project, launched this morning, targeting an altitude in excess of 100,000 feet.  The flight carries 3 kilograms of educational and outreach payloads, including experiments by Lake Arthur Elementary School (Lake Arthur, LA), Awty International School (Houston), and Brookwood Community (Houston).  Also featured is an outreach payload for Cohu Entertainment of Helsinki, Finland, a company creating a worldwide space flight digital experience.

Here's a photo of launch preparations this morning in Pennsylvania.

The flight is designated Minerva 1, a name suggested by a Citizen of Brookwood Community, Jack Maxfield, and honoring the achievements of the special needs adults there.  Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom.
